It’s official! We here at Wolfgang are celebrating our 100th anniversary this year. It was in 1921, 100 years ago, that Mima Mae and Delphy Eli Wolfgang started the company in the same facility we operate in today on Latimer Street in York Pa. They began with a spirit of joy and a desire to give back to the York community through their candy. And many of us from York felt that joy as we grew up selling, buying and, of course, eating Wolfgang candy. The name “Wolfgang Candy” takes us back to those carefree days as a kid when our biggest concern was selling enough candy for the school fundraiser to earn one of the “cool” prizes.
While we still hold those memories dear, much has changed in our business and our industry in just the last ten years. As many in our community know, Wolfgang fell on difficult times around 2010-2011 and had to fight hard to remain viable into the future. Fortunately, we persevered, through much soul searching as the company decided to transition from a fundraising candy maker to a B2B (business to business) candy manufacturer for other prominent brands in the marketplace. In 2016 we started a transition to the new Wolfgang Confectioners and since then we have seen tremendous growth. We have added a second plant in Loganville Pa and are currently able to provide over 400 full-time jobs in our region between both our facilities. All of that came with a lot of work and effort by a lot of associates here at Wolfgang. We have much to be thankful, grateful, and appreciative of for all those who had contributed before us.
As we remember the past and look towards the future, we are filled with a sense of gratitude for the past and a great sense of hope for the future. While many things have changed, the underlying goal of Wolfgang, to bless others, has remained the same. We want to celebrate and pay homage to Mima Mae’s vision and say thank you. To all of those people who have had a piece of the Wolfgang candy history over the last 100 years (pun intended) – We thank you. Thank you for your support, your business, your generosity and your belief as we move forward and continue to Make Candy and Bless Lives.
