How To Choose The Right Co-Manufacturing Partner For You
Choosing a co-manufacturing process is an important step in growing your business but can be a daunting task. However, with the right relationship, it can end up saving you a tremendous amount of headaches in the long run. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when researching this next big step for your brand.
Identify Your Priorities
Think of the relationship you want to have with your contract manufacturer. What level of customer experience are you looking for? Are their specific capabilities you are desiring, an ideal location, etc.
As with any business relationship, communication is key. Does the co-man respond in a timely manner? Do they address your needs and concerns directly and professionally? Do they share your sense of urgency? Are they flexible when things go wrong and do what’s right if a problem arises?
Look At Their Team
Is their company composed of one compelling salesperson or founder, or do they have a whole team full of knowledge of manufacturing from start to finish? What is the company’s reputation in the industry? Who have they worked with in the past? Do they have any external certifications or awards?
Leave No Question Unanswered
When meeting with co-manufactures leave no stone unturned. It’s important to map out your expectations and learn their process of working with clients. Be thorough, do your research, and come prepared.
Take A Tour
Before making a commitment, take an in-person tour of their facility to check out their factory, machinery, and capabilities. Are they committed to staying at the forefront of technology and industry innovations? Do they hire people with a passion for product, process, and quality?
After you do your research and look at the numbers, a big part of your choice will be based on intuition and an instinctive gut feeling. This is a business relationship, but you also need to let your team and trust them. When things go wrong, you need to know without a doubt that they will do the right thing. Here at Wolfgang, we are committed to both results and relationships.
